NPDC staff are drawn from all over Nigeria. The Management Team is made up of a Managing Director and other Executive Directors. The Managing Director oversee the day-to-day operations of the company.

Managing Director

Yusuf Shimingah Matashi hails from Jaban Kogo, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

He attended Government Secondary School, Malumfashi, and obtained the West African School Certificate Examination with Division 1 in 1980. He proceeded to University of Nigeria, Nsukka and graduated in 1985 with Bachelor of Engineering (B. Eng.) in Electrical Engineering.

He started his career as a Project Engineer in Kaduna State in 1986 and joined the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in 1987 as a Maintenance Engineer with Linear Alkyl-Benzene Plant, now part of Kaduna Refinery & Petrochemical Company.

A smart, intelligent, witty, consummate Engineer and result-oriented manager of resources and people, Matashi has risen through the ranks, gathered extensive experience and held several positions in the corporation as:
• Head, Int’l Market Intelligence and Technology, Paris and London Office
• General Manager, Commercial Crude Oil Marketing Division,
• Group General Manager, Senior Technical Assistant to Group Managing Director (GMD),
• Group General Manager, Business Development Division and
• Group General Manager, LNG Division

Matashi’s work experience spans over 30 years in the Oil and Gas industry with assignments in project engineering, refinery maintenance, international material procurement, international oil trading, oil market intelligence, oil price assessments, crude oil marketing and sales, business development and corporate management; fifteen years of which have been dedicated to global oil market intelligence duties directed towards effective monitoring of the price performance of Nigerian crude oil grades and assessing major industry development strategies for revenue maximization from crude Oil and Gas sales.

He assumed his current appointment as the Managing Director of Nigerian Petroleum Development Company Limited (NPDC) a wholly owned Exploration and Production subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in March, 21st, 2016.

As a man with an outstanding personae and versatility, Matashi on arrival at Benin City sets out to drive the company towards the realization of the core objective NPDC was established for. He consciously guided the company through thick and thin by:
• Sustaining production during the worst period of the company short history, occasioned by the 16-month outage of the Trans Forcados Pipeline (TFP), with a brilliant initiative to convert WRPC/Warri Jetty to an export terminal supported marginal production and sustained gas supply for power generation.
• Raising crude oil production across all operated/non-operated JV assets to a new equity peak production of over 250,000bbls/day.
• Accelerating construction of the largest in-land Liquefied Petroleum Gas production facility that will deliver over 40% of local demand.
• Initiating and pursuing extensive Field Development Studies to support the company short and long-term production expansion targets.
• Restructuring the management and operation of the various Assets for greater efficiency, accountability and performance.

Erudite Matashi is also driving a new business culture to guarantee long-term sustainability of growth and continued development of the company by:
• Implementing a new Community engagements and development programme that has already delivered highly improved relationships.
• Raising Health Safety and Environment (HSE) performance through “Goal Zero” programme to entrench best HSE standards and culture.
• Enforcing new capacity building programme that has already delivered certification of 40 professionals in the company including Drilling Engineers, Geologist, Geo-Physicists, and Petroleum Technologists.
• Addressing fiscal obligation issues to all relevant government agencies. Since assuming office in 2016, Petroleum Profit Tax (PPT) to Federal Inland Revenue Service and Royalty to Department of Petroleum Resources are being paid as at when due.
• Encouraging stronger corporate governance structure for the company. A full NPDC Board of Directors has been constituted and fully functioning. In less than two years, the company has produced the 2010 to 2016 Audited Financial accounts endorsed by NPDC Board and approved at the 2018 Annual General Meeting and already filed with Corporate Affairs Commission.
• As the longest serving Managing Director of NPDC, his astute leadership has taken the company to new peak production and building new business culture at moment when the company is celebrating 30 years of existence.

Matashi has complemented his leadership and managerial skills with professional trainings in the Oil and Gas Industry in Nigeria and overseas. Expectedly, his stream of achievements in the Oil and Gas business has over time endeared him to notable and prominent players in the global energy mix.
