NPDC staff are drawn from all over Nigeria. The Management Team is made up of a Managing Director and other Executive Directors. The Managing Director oversee the day-to-day operations of the company.

Education:  Mr. Mai is an indigene of Adamawa State. He graduated with honours with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics with an award as the best Project Performance in Physics, from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1987. He obtained a Master of Science in Business Systems Analysis and Design from the City University, London, England in 1993; an Executive MBA, in Energy Management from the BI Norwegian School of Management, Oslo, Norway and IFP/ESCP-EAP, Paris, France; as well as Nanyang Technology from the University of Singapore, all in 2012.

Career: His career began in the United States of America, where he worked in the Information Technology sector, with his work taking him across states like Massachusetts, Florida, Virginia and Washington DC, the U.S capital.

After years of professional fulfillments and significant experience in the IT sector, he decided to evolve from a mainly technical role in the IT sector towards a more strategic role with responsibilities for the technology innovation and business development areas, hence he enrolled and obtained an MBA certificate.

From February 1994 - May 1995, Mr. Mai worked as a Business System Analyst with the Johnson & Johnson in Massachusetts, USA; from May, 1995 - May, 2000, he was Senior System Consultant with Computer Management Sciences Inc. Jacksonville, Florida, USA. His role within the company was mainly working in the company’s outsourced projects and was also responsible for providing support and consulting to various clients and business units in applying IT solutions to business processes.

After nine (9) years of private employment, Mr. Mai set up his own firm, Mai Consulting Inc., in May 2000, to offer IT consultancy to businesses in the U.S. His firm’s clients included DynCorp I&ET, Inc. Reston, Virginia; Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve Bank (FRB), Washington DC., and Canal Bridge Consulting, Bethesda, Maryland. He was Chief Executive Officer of his company until April, 2005 when he was recruited directly from the US into the NNPC as Deputy Manager, IT, Corporate Headquarters (CHQ), Abuja.

In January, 2010, he was promoted and deployed as Manager, Applications, ITD, CHQ, Abuja and in November, 2016, he was promoted and redeployed to IDSL where he served as the Executive Director Services for a period of ten months. As EDS he was responsible for developing and managing the overall human, administrative and physical resources of the IDSL organization. Notable initiatives undertaken by Mr. Mai while in IDSL include:

  • Construction of a new IDSL Admin Building

  • Rehabilitated dilapidated structures and facilities to make for a more pleasant work environment

  • Developed career intervention plans for the IDSL workforce

  • Provided appropriate work and productivity tools

    Other achievements include working with the GGM ITD to develop and implement NNPC’s IT strategic and operational planning to achieve business goals by fostering innovation, prioritizing IT initiatives, and coordinating the evaluation, deployment, and management of current and future IT systems across the organization; managing the IT budgets and expenditure on hardware and software and developing and maintaining the company’s IT systems, software and databases. In September 2017, Mr. Muniru Muhammad Mai was deployed to NPDC as the new General Manager IT.

    External Roles: Over the years, Mr. Mai’s responsibilities and achievements at NNPC include among others, Project Manager in the implementation of the NNPC corporate data centre; Project Manager of the Retail Automation solution, that provides a totally integrated infrastructure for NNPC Retail to effectively manage all its retail activities of sales, deliveries, and inventory at the mega Service Stations. Mr. Mai has attended various workshops and seminars locally and overseas, including Regulatory Principles, Practices, and Compliance in the Nigerian Oil & Gas Industry (2015); IT Infrastructure Management (2014); including Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) Certification (2012); EMBA, Energy Management, Oslo, Norway (2010); Extensive Team Building and Leadership Development Programme at Total Oil Co. (2008); IT infrastructure Library (ITIL) Certification (2007); Executive Development Programme (EDP) at Kellog School of Management of Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, USA (2006) and PRINCE2 Project Management Certification (2005).

    He has also distinguished himself with various memberships of Professional affiliations including Kellog Alumni Energy Club, Evanston, IL, USA, IEEE, Computer Professionals Council of Nigeria.

    His hobbies include Tennis, Football, Adopting new Technology and Monitoring Current Affairs. He is happily married with children.
