The National Assembly has expressed its readiness to assist the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company Limited (NPDC) to attain its full potentials. The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), Honourable Ajibola Muraina stated this during their visit to the NPDC Head Office, Benin City.
He explained that the visit was part of their oversight function to examine and approve the company’s annual budget estimates and ensure that its operations are optimized for the benefit of the Government and people of Nigeria.
Honourable Muraina also used the opportunity to call for closer working ties for the overall progress of our country. “NPDC undoubtedly holds a strategic position in the economic development of this country. It is clear that this organization and our committee are partners working for the good of our beloved country; while our mandates may be different our objectives remain the same”.
In conclusion, the Chairman stressed that the exercise would strengthen their relationship with NPDC and evolves strategies that would help improve the company’s operational concepts.
“We believe that this visit will open a new vista in our relationship and that we will continue to work as partners in progress and ensure that oversight function will be carried out as at when due”.
Earlier in his address, the Managing Director, Mr. Iyowuna Briggs thanked the Committee for the visit. The MD used the occasion to brief the Honourable Members on NPDC position in the Exploration and Production business since its establishment in 1988.
“It is with great pleasure that we receive you in NPDC. We are highly honoured to host members of the House of Representatives on their oversight function. We appreciate it that you were able to make it to NPDC. We thank you for the magnanimity you displayed in adjusting your engagement dates to accommodate us”.
Mr. Iyowuna Briggs also extended his appreciation to the Federal Government for its continuous support and unwavering interest in the progress of the nation’s premier Oil and Gas Company just as he reaffirmed his commitment to improve on the fortunes of the company.
“We also appreciate the tremendous support we are enjoying from both the Executive and the Legislative Arms of Government and we have no choice but to make sure that we perform to your expectations”.
The Committee later examined the Company’s Technical presentation and made appropriate recommendations.
