The Management of the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company Limited (NPDC) paid a courtesy visit on His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Erediauwa CFR, The Oba of Benin on Wednesday, 20th November, 2013.
The aim of the visit was to congratulate His Royal Majesty on his 90th Birthday and brief him on the activities of NPDC.
Speaking during the visit, the Managing Director of NPDC, Mr. Iyowuna Briggs remarked that he was highly honoured to visit the Oba of Benin.
He said: “It is a privilege to be here. This is my first time of coming here, so it’s a special privilege. Not everyone who has been opportuned to hear about the Oba of Benin is able to be here. I feel so honoured to meet the Oba of Benin Kingdom and his Council of Chiefs today”.
Mr. Iyowuna Briggs went further to say that NPDC, is passing through a transformational phase. This period of growth according to the Managing Director has significantly increased the company’s total crude oil production from 70,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) to over 130,000 bopd to which Edo State accounts for a considerable percentage. He added that efforts were on top gear to further increase production to 250,000 bopd in 2015.
Speaking further, Mr. Iyowuna Briggs hinted that the company is constructing a befitting head office in Benin City as part of efforts to complement its growth, ‘This indicates that NPDC is here to stay’, he enthused.
Earlier, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Erediauwa CFR, the Oba of Benin had solicited for the employment of indigenes of Edo State into NPDC. He said that the need to employ these youths was imperative as it would not just groom them to become responsible members of the society but would also abate youth restiveness occasioned by idleness.
He further expressed his gratitude to the Management of NPDC and prayed for the continuous growth of the company.
In his response, Mr. Iyowuna Briggs acknowledged the receipt of applications for employment saying: “We have collected all the requests and we will look at them and will liaise with the appropriate departments to see what we can do. Although we have some constrains, we will put in every effort to see what we can do.”
On the Management team were the Executive Director Services, Mr. Ishaya Timothy, Manager, External Relations Department, Mr. Ugo Atugbokoh, Manager, Security Services Department, Mr. Lenunianee Johnson fsi and the Technical Assistant to the MD, Mr. Edidiong Idiong.
